Dr. Sylvia Earle Rocked the National Geographics Explorers Festival and ROLEX Awards for Enterprise!

The world's most innovative scientists, conservationists, educators and storytellers gathered in Washington DC from June 8th to June 14t, 2019 at the National Geographic Society to discuss ways to create a sustainable future on Earth. At the National Geographics Awards on June 12th, 2019, Dr. Sylvia Earle presented the National Geographic / Buffett Awards for Leadership in Conservation to Patrícia Medici and Tomas Diagne.

On June 14th, Dr. Sylvia Earle attended the ROLEX Awards for Enterprise at the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery. It was a fantastic evening celebrating the scientists, researchers and activists working to make the ocean– and the entire world– a better place.  A special shoutout to finalists Miranda Wang, Dr. Emma Camp and Dr. Pablo Garc
ía Borboroglu for their groundbreaking work in investing in the health of the planet's oceans!

Dr. Sylvia Earle Weighs In on the Sargasso Sea in Her Article in National Geographic Magazine!


In National Geographic Magazine's latest issue, Dr. Sylvia Earle discusses the phenomenon of the Sargasso Sea, describing it as a "living laboratory", wherein thrives a photosynthetic organism responsible for creating 20% of the Earth's oxygen.

“The Sargasso,” Earle says, “shines with hope in a troubled ocean.”

Introducing Dr. Emma Camp, ROLEX Awards for Enterprise Associate Laureate

ROLEX Announces their Perpetual Planet Campaign with Support for Mission Blue!


Luxury watch brand ROLEX has a long history of supporting exploration and conservation, with more than 40 years of history of sending their watches to accompany explorers to the most extreme conditions on Earth to ensure that their timepieces can sustain the impact.

ROLEX recently announced their new Perpetual Planet campaign, a 3-pronged approach to investing in the healthy future of the planet which involves a new partnership with National Geographic Society to study the global impact of climate change. The campaign includes an expedition to Mount Everest, support for Mission Blue and Hope Spots, and encompasses the ROLEX Awards for Enterprise, which recognizes individuals doing outstanding work to further the health and wellbeing of Earth and mankind.

ROLEX says, “Exploration for pure discovery has given way to exploration as a means of finding new ways to preserve the natural world."
