While trekking through a jungle in Indonesia, a woman was grabbed by an orangutan which held onto her wrist for almost five minutes. The orangutan’s motives likely weren’t vicious (0:31). It may have been a formerly captive animal that was released into the wild, and its past history with human interaction could have led it to seek out human contact. It sounds surreal, like a scene from a fairy tale, but this really happened to a man on a fishing trip in Ohio. While it's not recommended to get this close to wild animals, it's hard not to giggle at the young raccoons' curiosity as they crawl all over the man's shoulders and head (0:13). |     1:36    |     ANIMALS    | This Sea Creature Does an Awesome Hermit Crab Impression At first glance, you might think you're watching hermit crabs scurry around an aquarium, but a fascinating transformation occurs at 0:10 when these 'hermit crabs' return to their original form—as cuttlefish. The video was collected by researchers from Ryukyus University in Japan who noticed this unusual mimicry behavior while feeding cuttlefish in the lab. |     2:25    |     NEWS    | How to Train a Bumblebee: Scientists Study Insect Intelligence You may have seen footage before of chimps solving complex problems, using tools, or responding to symbols. You might even be familiar with studies that show some birds are pretty smart, too. But animal intelligence pops up in even more surprising places. I never would have expected that bumblebees could learn to pull a string to get a reward. Somehow, scientists thought to test the idea of training bumblebees in a lab—and it worked.
