BREAKING: Trump delivers a one-two punch to wildlife

Take Action!

Dear folks,
Yesterday, President Trump delivered a one-two punch to our nation's wildlife. He released his budget for 2019 and his proposal to address the nation's infrastructure needs. But both proposals threaten wildlife.
President Trump's Budget: A Fatal "Funding" Plan
President Trump’s budget would slash funding for wildlife conservation programs that are critical to the protection of imperiled species. In fact, this budget cuts the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) overall by nearly 20 percent below the FY 2017 enacted level.
This includes cutting funding for decisions about whether to protect new species under the Endangered Species Act by 47 percent and zeroing out funding for key FWS science programs.
It would also continue to cut funding for scientific research into combating climate change – the number one threat facing all wildlife today.
Infrastructure Plan: Bulldozing Wildlife Protections
The Trump administration's infrastructure proposal continues the assault on the laws protecting wildlife and the environment. As written, it would undermine efforts to protect wildlife and their habitats by sidestepping critical environmental safeguards in the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act, the National Environmental Policy Act and other laws to benefit developers.
The fact is, we don't have to choose between updating our nation's infrastructure and maintaining strong protections for wildlife and the environment. We can – and must – have both!
Wildlife has value that cannot be calculated. But the Trump administration has put a price on our wildlife and they have shown time and again that they are willing to trade it away for short-sighted gains and to win favor with special interests.
Right now, our policy experts are pouring over the details of these plans and we will be keeping you up-to-date with further information as we learn more. But you don't have to wait to take action on behalf of wildlife.
Sincerely,
Robert Dewey, Vice President
