Dear friends,
Congress could pass legislation this month that would put wolves in the Great Lakes and beyond in the hands of states intent on allowing hunting, trapping, and even hounding.
Numerous federal courts have ruled that these wolves should remain protected under the Endangered Species Act and scores of scientists have spoken out against delisting, but politicians from both parties are aggressively pushing to rewrite the rules. If they are successful, hunting and trapping seasons could be set immediately.
Wolves are targeted by several of the proposals, but they are not the only species in jeopardy. Manatees, Florida panthers, and even parrots in hurricane-ravaged Puerto Rico could have their protections slashed under one particularly reckless legislative attack. There are more than 50 other bills under consideration by Congress that could terribly weaken the Endangered Species Act and put the plants, fish, and animals it protects in peril. The Endangered Species Coalition will loudly and vigorously oppose each and every one of these attempts to put wildlife in peril, but we need your help.
We know that we can influence that outcome by organizing. Politicians listen when people speak out en masse. Please help the Endangered Species Coalition continue to organize and mobilize in support of protecting imperiled wildlife with a 100% tax-deductible Giving Tuesday donation today.
Thank you for your commitment to wildlife and wild places.
Sincerely,
