What happens in the next 30 days is crucial for the Endangered Species Act

Friends,
The next 30 days could determine the future of our country's ability to protect endangered species from extinction.
Congress has until December 8th to fund the federal government or pass a resolution keeping existing funding levels in place. Wildlife opponents have used must-pass spending legislation like this in previous years to pass some of the worst attacks on wildlife.
There are a long list of anti-wildlife bills that could be passed as "riders" on the appropriations bills. Among the most concerning is legislative delisting of gray wolves in the Great Lakes that would turn management over to those states. Massive opposition from activists like you has prevented this from passing to date, but the next month will be critical in keeping these wolves protected.
In addition to wolf delisting, Congress could:
  • Prohibit the protection of species like manatees and parrots that exist only in one state.
  • Make it profoundly more difficult to enforce the Endangered Species Act through the court system.
  • Block Endangered Species Act protection for the Preble's meadow jumping mouse—a vanishing species gravely threatened by development and urban sprawl
  • Delay any protections for greater sage-grouse for at least 10 years and upend the successful Sage Grouse Initiative.
  • Even turn ALL new listing decisions over to states, taking scientists out of the process and turning these decisions over to politicians.
We are bringing every resource we have to bear in this fight. Our grassroots organizers around the country and staff in Washington, D.C. are working to build and mobilize opposition to these attacks before it's too late. Please support our work to save the Endangered Species Act with a donation today. Your support is 100% tax-deductible and goes directly to our work in the field–organizing and mobilizing activists in defense of endangered species and the law that protects them.
Thank you for your commitment to wildlife and wild places.
Sincerely,
Leda Huta
