SumOfUs worldwide movement: This is an outrage

Máxima Acuña de Chaupe has been fighting for nearly a decade to stop Newmont mining from destroying her homeland in Peru. Now Newmont will likely take Máxima to court for the third time.
Will you chip in $1 to help pay for Máxima's legal defense?

Dear Folks,
In 2011, the Peruvian government gave US-based Newmont Mining permission to strip 7,400 acres and four lakes to mine for gold and copper.
Newmont attempted to force out all of the residents in the area -- including Máxima Acuña de Chaupe, who refused to leave the 60-acre plot of land where she farms potatoes and rears sheep and cows. In court, Newmont has accused Máxima of squatting on land that she rightfully owns.
Máxima has refused to back down, facing down the giant corporation to protect her home, livelihood and family. Peruvian security forces hired by the $10 billion corporation constantly spy on Máxima and her family, her house has been demolished twice, and she has been hospitalized after confrontations with security. She battled Newmont through legal appeal after appeal -- and won.
Máxima's legal team has learned that Newmont is gearing up to take her to court again, and she needs our help. Will you chip in $1 to Máxima's legal defense fund?

Yes, I’ll donate $1 to help stop Newmont from destroying Máxima's home.
Máxima has won not one, but two cases that went all the way to the Peruvian Supreme Court. More than 160,000 SumOfUs members have asked Newmont to leave Máxima alone and leave her farm in peace.
But Newmont has not given up.
Máxima stands 145 cms (4 foot 9 inches) tall but she has taken on a multi-billion dollar mining giant without wavering.
She is an inspiration to us all, and we need to do everything we can to make sure she can fight this next legal battle with Newmont.

Thanks for all that you do,
