SumOFUs campaign: Urgent: palm oil

Palm oil is destroying the last place in the world where orangutans, elephants, rhinos, and tigers live together.

We urgently need your support to stop corporations cutting down rainforests. Will you make a special monthly donation today?

The only place on Earth where orangutans, elephants, rhinos, and tigers live together is being illegally ripped to shreds to make way for palm oil -- the cheap fat used in everything from snack foods to shampoo.
Corporations wanting to make a quick buck have bulldozed a whopping 22,000 hectares of rainforest -- the size of over 40,000 football fields -- in just two years.
UNESCO has listed this fragile place -- the Leuser ecosystem on the island of Sumatra, Indonesia, as a world heritage site in danger.
SumOfUs has been fighting to defend these forests for years. We have a proven strategy that wins -- made only possible by SumOfUs members like you. And to continue to stop the tide of destruction -- and save the precious wildlife -- we really need your support today.
Some of the largest purchasers of conflict palm oil are snack food companies. We've shown that by aggressively targeting their brands we can force them to find alternatives to conflict palm oil and cut off demand once and for all.
If you make a small monthly gift today, we can can pay for expert advice and technology to run and win campaigns so we can protect these forests and the animals that live in them for generations to come.
A regular donation from you means we can sustain an ongoing, powerful effort.
Will you please donate to protect these precious forests from being torn to shreds?
Palm oil campaigning funded by SumOfUs members works. Together, we’ve forced some of the biggest companies in the world like McDonald’s, Starbucks, and KFC, to commit to using only responsible palm oil, free of deforestation and the exploitation of workers.
But there's still more work to be done.
In just under six months, palm oil company PT Agra Bumi Niaga, has been caught twice illegally clearing forest in the Leuser ecosystem, on the island of Sumatra in Indonesia -- where the future of homes of critically endangered species lies.
The Sumatran elephant population has been reduced to the thousands.
The situation’s out of control -- swathes of rainforest are still being cleared even though the Indonesian government banned forest clearing.
PT ABN won’t care unless we make them -- and we need your help to do it.
Members like you have chipped in to fund demonstrations outside company headquarters, ads, and spoof videos that have gone viral across the internet. If you make a small monthly donation today, we can expand our work, think big, plan with confidence, and act quickly when crucial moments call for it.
Will you please chip in to protect this precious ecosystem from being torn to shreds?
Campaigning against corporations so they do the right thing costs money. That’s why we need members like you funding this work.Whether it’s with hard-hitting ads and billboards, hiring lawyers to take them on in court, commissioning research, or turning up at their headquarters so they can't ignore us.
We may never have as much money as big corporations, but when all of us chip in a little bit, we become powerful enough to take them on.
We’re 100% independent. We take no money from government or corporations -- we run almost entirely on donations from the SumOfUs community. This lets us to do what needs to be done, when it needs to be done.
Your donation will ensure that we can build a world where corporations act responsibly for many years to come. Please chip in now.
Thanks for all that you do,
Kat and the team at SumOfUs
